We tend to overcomplicate meditation these days, making it seem much harder than it needs to be. Meditation is simply an opportunity to practice being mindful. And while it’s a good way to practice, it’s certainly not the only way. Any time you intentionally place your attention on a point of focus you are cultivating mindfulness.
If meditation calls to you, definitely try it. But if there’s a chance that frustration or discomfort could bubble up when you try to meditate or even think about trying to meditate, don’t do it. There are so many ways to develop an awakened mind. At the beginning, you may want to simply shoot for stillness.
