Your Relationship with Yourself with Erica Mather

Most of us have many different relationships swirling in our lives. Work relationships, friendships, family, spouse, etc. Whether we realize it or not, our primary relationship is the one we have with our self. The trouble is, most of us aren’t really aware of this relationship, or, perhaps, we may realize that we have a really negative relationship with ourselves. We might even be our own worst enemy.

In her new book, Your Body, Your Best Friend: End the Confidence-Crushing Pursuit of Unrealistic Beauty Standards and Embrace Your True Power, Erica Mather has us wonder how different life would be if we truly befriended ourselves.

In a society overwhelmed with messages of how women should be and appear, it’s easy to internalize these ideas and become our own harshest critics. It’s time for a change.

An author, yoga therapist, Forrest Yoga Guardian, and master teacher, Erica Mather, M.A. is a life-long educator who teaches people to feel better in, and about their bodies, and to view their bodies as an ally and best friend on the journey of life. Erica believes that it’s time to stop squashing ourselves into painfully tight “should-be” boxes.

In our conversation this week on the 60 Mindful Minutes podcast, Erica encourages me and listeners to examine our own thoughts and feelings about our bodies, to learn to release negative conditioning, and to fiercely embrace the authentic woman or man we are.
