Welcome to Day One of this Daily Centering Course.
Before we get started, let’s take a pause and ask a fundamental question: Why?
Why would you want to set time aside every day to tune back into yourself? Why does this matter?
While most of us have heard of mindfulness, we may not have considered how important it is to the daily living of our lives. You see, our brain puts us on auto-pilot most of the time, which means that we sleepwalk through most of our days.
Mindfulness is the antidote to sleepwalking.
When we develop mindfulness, we:
- improve our focus and attention
- become more emotionally regulated and less reactive
- we reduce stress and anxiety because we begin to tune into our habitual, automated thinking that, when left unchecked, has us worry, feel scared, harbor resentments, and react defensively.
Developing the skill of mindfulness (or conscious awareness) is like having the ability to jump into the engine of a runaway train and throw the breaks.
