I’ve heard it said that success is boring, that it’s rarely an explosive event or overnight phenomenon, but more often the result of doing the same thing over and over again without giving up.
As a professional concert pianist, Jeeyoon Kim has built a career on the foundation of unwavering persistence. Throughout her career, she’s given concerts in world renowned venues, receiving standing ovations, awards and accolades. But in between those big moments in the spotlight has been practice, thousands of hours of practice. In order to stay with her craft, and continue to improve, she’s learned how to transcend her feelings and whims in order to commit to her work, every day, no matter what, without fail.
In her new book, Whenever You’re Ready: How to Compose the Life of Your Dreams, Jeeyoon shares how success stems from the disciplines, practices, and mindsets that we live out and develop every day.
In our conversation, we discuss:
- The power of daily practice;
- How to direct ourselves;
- Having a ‘never done’ attitude;
- The importance of habits;
- Why we need perseverance but also rest;
- Developing our “dreaming muscle.”
Jeeyoon’s message is about how we can each prepare mentally, emotionally, and physically for our own performances…whether that’s landing a job, practicing for a speech or training for a marathon. Ahead you’ll hear advice and encouragement, but also practical exercises any of us can use to help us perform at our best and achieve our dreams.
