Some people never stop learning. They are endlessly curious about the world and all the ways we can understand and experience it more fully. As someone who identifies as a lifelong learner, I’m interested and invested in ways to learn better and retain more. Turns out there is a ton of neuroscience and cognitive psychology research behind how to upgrade our learning. In their new book, Learn Like a Pro: Science-Based Tools to Become Better at Anything, Dr. Barbara Oakley and Olav Schewe unpack this research and deliver tangible strategies for becoming a better learner.
I was thrilled to have the opportunity to speak to Barbara and Olav about their enormously useful and insightful book.
In our conversation, we discuss:
- What happens in the brain when we learn;
- Strategies for better retention and recall;
- The importance of sleep, exercise and rest (without our phones) for our brains;
- Understanding short and long-term memory.
I LOVED getting into the tactical tips and nerdy neuroscience behind how we can upgrade our ability to learn. Listen wherever you stream podcasts (Apple, Spotify, iHeart Radio) or listen here:
